Cropping changes the shape of the frame, which is what platforms actually care about. A 16:9 clip posted to Reels or Shorts gets letterboxed with black bars unless it is cropped to 9:16 first, and a square post needs 1:1.
Drag the box to choose the region, and lock it to a ratio so the shape stays exact while you move it around. The export re-draws only the cropped region onto a new canvas, so there is no letterboxing and no padding in the result.
Everything is processed locally. Your video is not uploaded to a server, there is no queue, and nothing is added to the exported file.
9:16. That is the full-screen vertical shape used by Reels, YouTube Shorts and TikTok. For a normal feed post, 1:1 or 4:5 work best.
Choose “Match the crop” for output width and the export uses the cropped region's own pixel size, so nothing is scaled up or down.
Cropping tightly and setting a larger output width has the same visual effect as zooming, though enlarging a small crop will look soft.
